Speedskiing
World Cup opening event will be organized in Sallatunturi
(
www.salla.fi ),
which is located close to the Russian border in Lapland
(Finland).
An estimated amount of 40-60
of the worlds fastest speedskiers from all over the world
will participate
in the event,
including the
World Cup overall winners in 2004,
Phillippe May (SUI) and Tracy Sachs (USA).
The
event is a part to the official program of F.I.S.
(Federation International de Ski ) and will be supervised
by the living legend of speedskiing, woldrecord man in
1968
and the F.I.S. president of the speedskiing committee,
Kalevi "Häkä" Häkkinen (speedskier since 1928). The title
sponsor of the worldcup event is
FedEx Express.
Speed, teamwork and precision
Speedskiing is the
fastest sport in the world (excluding F1 motorsports )!
The current
world record is 250,700 km/h
made by
the French Philippe Goitschel in Les Arcs (FRA)
in 2002.
The official F.I.S. Speedskiing
Worldchampions in 2003 were Jukka Viitasaari (men) and
Jaana Viitasaari representing the Viitasaari family and
Speedskiing Team Finland.
Kati Metsäpelto (FIN) won the Pro
Mondial worldchampionships in the professional category in
2003. Her speed was 215.960 km/h. Tarja Mulari, again from
Finland, won gold In the 1992 winter olympics in
Albertville. Her speed was
219,245 km/t (WR). Häkä and teamwork is behind most of
these fantastic results.

concept of the Speedskiing World Cup and FedEx Express
cooperation has been created by Synergy Integrated
Int.(Synergialaitos.Com), acting as a Marketing Integrator
and a Communication Coordinator in Helsinki, Finland.
The event
will be organized by Sallan Karhut association, which have
a many years experience in organizing national and
international speedskiing events.
Kalevi
"Häkä" Häkkinen

is the chief coordinator, The chairman of Sallan Karhut,
Arto Tuuha, acts as the leader of the racing committee.
A
60 minutes long TV-program of the event will be produced
and edited by the
Swedish
Scenic Television. The
company
has
a
wide, six
years experience in producing TV-programs of Speedskiing.

Speedskiing
World Cup -program

Wednesday
26th.- Friday 28th. of January 2005
International training camp anf free training beginning
at 10.00, 12.00 and 14.00.
Saturday
29th of January
Official
World Cup starts at 15.00, 17.00 and finals 19.00. The
pricegiving ceremony after the finals.
Sunday
30th of January
First back-up day. Starts as above.
Monday 31th
of January
Second
back-up day. Starts as above.
Twilight
moment
Because
of the period of darkness in Lapland, the official starts
will be organized in artificial lightning
for
the first time in the history of speedskiing.
International
TV-coverage
The Finnish
Broadcasting Company
(YLE TV-2)
will send
out a
60 minutes
program
PRIMETIME on SATURDAY 19TH of
FEBRUARY
14.45 PM.
The
Swedish TV-3 will also
broadcast the program. ViaSatSport will
distribute the
program to all other Scandinavian countries
and
possibly to
other EU-countries as well.
BBC London has plans to make
a documentary film during the event.
Only in Finland
approx. 500 000 spectators watched the TV-program of the
Speedskiing World Championship event from Salla in 2003.
The Finnish
Broadcasting Company will
also
have a satellite
car in Salla, to deliver online programs of the event for
the Finnish Sports News ao.
